For more than 20 years, Colin McGugan has been dedicated to helping his clients achieve financial security and peace of mind.
Throughout this time, and since launching Cailean in 2008, he has had the pleasure of working with many different types of clients. Listening carefully and observing what they ultimately want has driven Colin to turn the traditional financial advice model on its head.
What he has found over many years is that people are often guided by generic financial advice and products that overlooked their unique dreams, values and lifestyles. Colin believes there is a better way – by integrating your personal aspirations into financial strategies.
True financial planning, as defined by the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investments, is a professional service giving objective assistance to enable clients to organise their finances to achieve their financial and lifestyle objectives.
With that in mind, Colin and his team are committed to empower you with the knowledge and tools you need to make informed decisions. We believe that financial planning should not be a one-time event but an ongoing journey. We are here to walk with you every step of the way, helping you navigate life’s milestones and challenges with confidence.

Colin McGugan Financial Planner
The inspiration behind Cailean is founder Colin McGugan (Cailean is Gaelic for Colin), who has many years’ experience in financial services, having worked for both large national and small privately owned independent advisory firms since 2001.
Colin helps individuals and families, along with business owners, achieve financial security and live their dream lifestyles through careful and detailed tailored planning. Colin specialises in personalised, holistic financial planning that aligns with clients’ unique goals and values.
Colin has a number of industry qualifications including the C/SQA Diploma in Professional Financial Advice, the IFS Certificate in Mortgage Advice and Practice (CeMAP) and the Certificate in Equity Release (ER1).
When Colin isn’t working, he loves to spend time with his wife and kids and the crazy dogs. As well as his busy family life, he enjoys restoring almost anything in his garage, but particularly vintage Japanese motorbikes. This helps him maintain a balanced perspective and connect with clients on a personal level.
Bev Kane Associate
Amongst many other roles within Cailean, Bev primarily looks after the technical and paraplanning side of the business. Bev has been working with Colin since 2012. There’s no other way to describe her role – she’s a critical part of the team and the smooth running of looking after our clients. She is particularly good at keeping Colin in line!
Bev’s role involves research into the solutions we recommend to our clients and preparation of the suitability reports explaining the reasons behind our recommendations.
Bev has been in financial services for over 25 years and has worked with various large corporate companies and national independent financial advisory firms, providing support for both individual and corporate clients.
She is also qualified to Diploma level and is currently working towards her Chartered Financial Planner status.
When not working, Bev loves to spend time with her husband and their children. She really enjoys travelling and socialising and is generally a really fun and reliable person who always enjoys a good time.
Emma Coyle Business Support
With significant industry experience, Emma has worked in various administration and support roles in the financial services sector since 1997. She started her career at Standard Life, where she gained her Financial Planning Certificate with the FCA.
In her role at Cailean, Emma optimises the day-to-day operations, enhancing team efficiency and implementing strategic initiatives to drive business success.
Emma is passionate about her position at Cailean and is committed to leading with integrity and diligence that enables the team to achieve excellence. She is also very good at keeping Colin in check!
In her free time Emma enjoys music and spending time with her friends and family
Lauren McGugan Marketing
Lauren’s day job is her full-time career as a Chartered Building Surveyor.
Over the years, as a busy working mum herself, Lauren has always supported her husband Colin and his dedication to the evolution of Cailean. Since its establishment, she has admired Cailean’s consistent approach of being a client-focused firm.
Lauren has always been well-received by the team for her ability to understand and offer advice in relation to their new ideas and developments – anything that’s flowery and fun really, nothing too technical!
With a keen eye for design, Lauren has been the driving force behind our recent rebrand and our new website and will continue to assist Colin and the rest of the team at Cailean with various ongoing social and marketing-related activities.
Lauren has grown to know the team at Cailean very well and considers both Bev and Emma as family friends. Like the others, when not at work, she enjoys spending time with her children and her wider circle of family and friends.
